His love was like a pair of expensive new shoes –
I fell in love for the first sight
and knew I had to have them.
I spent more than I could afford
but I didn’ t care.
I felt beautiful in them
and didn’ t mind the blisters.
I thought  they’d become comfortable with time
but they didn’ t.
The more I wore them the more they hurt
but I was too proud to throw them away.
Each step was a bloody agony
but I knew it was my decision.
I had to hold on and hope for improvement,
which never came.
So I wore them until they got totally depleted
and mouldered away.
And then, only then
did I walk off
barefoot and happy
that I didn’ t have them anymore.

Have had a huge shopping-fever recently to heal the wounds - you know how it goes, sisters, don' t you? - and bought more than one uncomfortable pair of shoes, as usual...

...and it's struck me that this is so much like the love i had for him, it's THE methaphor of his love...

...as a matter of fact, any love i've had so far...

...although my mum told me that what's not comfortable for the first try, will never ever be comfortable...

...and it took me so long to realise she was right?!

I love the analogy.

I've never heard of a lover being compared to a pair of shoes:

"I fell in love for the first sight
and knew I had to have them."

The love felt good, so you didn't mind the pain:

"I felt beautiful in them
and didn’ t mind the blisters."

Eventually, you walked away....

"And then, only then
did I walk off
barefoot and happy
that I didn’ t have them anymore."

Bravo!
