His love was like a pair of expensive new shoes –
I fell in love for the first sight
and knew I had to have them.
I spent more than I could afford
but I didn’ t care.
I felt beautiful in them
and didn’ t mind the blisters.
I thought they’d become comfortable with time
but they didn’ t.
The more I wore them the more they hurt
but I was too proud to throw them away.
Each step was a bloody agony
but I knew it was my decision.
I had to hold on and hope for improvement,
which never came.
So I wore them until they got totally depleted
and mouldered away.
And then, only then
did I walk off
barefoot and happy
that I didn’ t have them anymore.

I've never heard of a lover being compared to a pair of shoes:
"I fell in love for the first sight
and knew I had to have them."
The love felt good, so you didn't mind the pain:
"I felt beautiful in them
and didn’ t mind the blisters."
Eventually, you walked away....
"And then, only then
did I walk off
barefoot and happy
that I didn’ t have them anymore."
Bravo!
